A Fusion of National Language Needed to Promote Belt and Road Initiative

On February 22 2017, Dr. Li Ruohong, honorary national economic advisor of Pakistan and president of China World Peace Foundation and Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation, received Tayyab Aijaz Qureshi, Director of Urdu Digest and CEO of Roshan Packages Limited. 

Both sides exchanged friendly on how to promote the language of Urdu with the backing of Chinese and Pakistani media agencies. Dr. Li explained to the guests the cooperation project of Belt and Road Cultural Atlas with UNESCO, and shared his insights and ideas on the prospects and problems existed in socioeconomic and cultural spheres between the two countries. Tayyab briefed Dr. Li the history and development of Urdu Digest: the magazine, founded in 1959, is the first and currently the most widely issued one in Urdu language, covering political analysis, moral stories, science essays and public figure interviews. In addition, an education foundation under Tayyab’s name offers financial support for thousands of needy students in their pursuit of further studies. Tayyab believed that a lot of similarities exist between the two sides and he hoped to cooperate on media, NGO, agriculture and packages. He also expressed the wish to promote Urdu, Chinese and Chinese culture across the world. Wang Donghai, editor-in-chief of the belt and road official website china.com.cn, introduced to the guests the website’s resource advantages, and he also hoped to cooperate with the Pakistani side.

After the meeting, Tayyab toured around the Peace Garden Museum and expressed the hope to intensify museum exchanges.
