On March 10th, 2017, Ralph LATORTUE, Permanent Representative of Commercial Development Bureau of Haiti to the People’s Republic of China, visited Peace Garden, and held a friendly meeting with Dr. Li Ruhong, President of China World Peace Foundation and Beijing International Peace Culture Foundation. Both sides reviewed the all-sector support and help the Bureau has been receiving from the Foundation, and discussed the multilateral cooperation between the Foundation and Caribbean countries and the cooperation between China and countries who have not established diplomatic relations with China.

China and Haiti have witnessed an increasingly frequent exchange in economy and culture though formal diplomatic ties have yet been established between the two countries. According to Dr. Li Ruohong, both countries enjoy a broad vista for cooperation; as a Chinese NGO and an international organization, the Foundation boasts a unique asset among countries who have yet established diplomatic relations with China, and the Foundation also plays an indispensable role in allocating resources when it cooperates with International Emergency Relief Organization. Dr. Li said that the Foundation would like to be devoted to the economic, trade and cultural exchanges between the two countries so as to deliver real benefits for the friendship between the peoples from China, Haiti and Caribbean countries.

Mr. LATORTUE also voiced his expectation on further advancing the friendly relationship between China and Haiti. The influence of China in Latin-America has been on the rise steadily as the two sides enjoy a rapid development in relations. In 2015, great achievement was made during the China-Latin America Forum. Haiti attaches great importance to the cooperation between China and Caribbean countries and, going forward, it hopes to get support from the Foundation to unlock its potential in energy, infrastructure, agriculture, industry and technical training, so as to develop economy and improve the wellbeing of its people. On top of that, Mr. LATORTUE also hoped to promote cultural exchanges between the two sides, and he introduced general information on recent Haitian painting and artwork exhibition in Beijing.

After the meeting, Dr. Li showed Peace Garden Museum to Mr. LAORTUE during which the latter praised highly the achievement the Foundation has made in promoting world peace. Both sides firmly believed that, with joint effort, pragmatic cooperation will be deepened between China and Haiti in advancing economic and cultural exchanges and development for the two countries.
